I feel the need to get something off my chest. (sigh) Here goes…. I have been known sometimes in the past, very occasionally, to feel and to exhibit extreme signs of road rage. From time to time I have felt the need to curse, to gesticulate, to honk my horn and to generally to act in a way that I am not very proud of when my mind becomes once again sane and rational (when I am off the road). |

Have you ever had one of those days where everything just goes right? Everything falls into place, doors open, inspired ideas and thoughts flow, timing is spot on, you feel like you are firing on all cylinders and you just know that everything’s right with the world, after a while you get the feeling that there really is goodness and goodwill for everything and everyone. I just had one of those days, and here is the recipe: |

Last night I was one of the lucky who got to see the WOW before the masses descend on the show. We were treated to the full dress rehearsal and it was a delicious indulgence from the appetiser, through the main course, right through to the dessert. (In fact I’d have liked a double helping of that pav!) YUM!
(I’m not planning on putting any major spoilers in this post so read on with confidence.) |

Tonight’s pre-loved meets high fashion show Foxy at the Roxy, put the spotlight on timeless gems that had been sourced from the treasure troves of our regions 5 Mary Potter Stores. The vintage goodies were shown alongside Mandatory & Starfish and the iconic Wellington label Ashley Fogel. The Roxy had a capacity crowd who were so enthusiastic that they literally bought the dress off my back.

The day of the most recent big earthquake felt in Wellington, (I think it was the Taupo one), I was sitting at the front window table of Coco at the Roxy with Helen from the Mary Potter Hospice and Casey from Ashley Fogel. |

Sorry folks for the absence and delay in posts – I have been rather over run with deserving charity gigs lately and have been using my ‘me’ time for ‘cause’ time. |

Tell jack frost to take a hike with the coolest coats this season. We almost have too many choices this winter for that all important outer layer. And it can get confusing. |

I met up with a couple of Welly fashionista ex-pats last night who have just had a quick trip around NZ. They confirmed for me Wellington’s status as The Style Capital. This is not about bias as Mickey and Ra of MisteR fame don’t live here anymore. It is simply an observation. |

Tonight, thanks to ZM’s New Hot Guy and his gorgeous little Chihuahua puppy Priest I got to see the preview screening of Bridesmaids. I have been a Bridesmaid myself twice, so I know the potential pitfalls and pandemonium that can befall the Bridesmaid and indeed the whole Wedding party. I have seen it all: tantrums, family in-fighting, budget blowouts and psychotic jealous sisters. |

Each season for the past three or so years I have teamed up with Westfield Queensgate (or as I fondly refer to them ‘my local’) to present the latest looks of the season. We have covered everything from boho to sport luxe. |

Presenting the ZM and Westfield Style Session is always fun and because it is live there is always something that can and will go wrong. This time it was that my head set microphone was brand new and wasn’t wearing its fluffy cover thing (what is that called?!) so every time I breathed it sounded like Darth Vader was on stage with me. |

I believe all Mums have a Yummy Mummy hiding within. Often she is kicking and screaming to get out. The biggest block to realising her magnificence is finding the time to make manifest the Yummy Mummy persona when the world now revolves around a helpless tiny being. How to you get the balance between self care and baby? How do you even find the time? |

It was dreamy eyed excitement that got me out of bed early this morning (Mothers Day) to meet my Mum at my local Farmers, for the two of us to see the replica of the Royal wedding dress. |

Someone once told me that being a mother is akin to having your heart run around outside of your body. |

Driving home tonight this awesome rock anthem from the glam rock band Europe was on the radio. I don’t know that 'The Final Countdown' would be on Catherine and Williams’s playlist tonight but I thought it was the perfect tune to listen to in the lead up to tomorrow’s big event. |

Amelia Earhart was not only a pioneer of the skies, but she led the world as a fashion icon of her time. As she circumnavigated the globe, the women of the World were quick to adopt her unique spin on fashion. This winter we are all about to be inspired by her androgynous adventurous sense of style because Amelia is taking off all over again as almost every store adopts a little bit of Amelia’s look and makes it their own. |

It was such a gorgeous afternoon today that my boss gave me the afternoon off. That my boss is me doesn’t make a free afternoon any less special. |

2011 will be the year that woman across the world begin faking it, if they haven’t been secretly doing it all along.
For in 2011 the call of the wild will be too strong to resist. It will be the year that sees even the most shy and retiring amongst us un-leash their inner animal. |

Last night I was a contender in my first ‘style-off’. Much like a’ walk off’ a style off is a fashion term for when two people try to out style each other. |

I have moved through feeling helpless and hopeless about the Christchurch earthquake, today I feel excited and motivated because I have had an idea of how I can help, it has come to fruition thanks to the generous support of many many people and I hope to see you there. |

Move over Baby....I have just had the time of my life. I have been working deep in the bowels of the Opera House as a dresser of Drag Queens. Hold up - What do you call a group of Drag Queens? A gaggle? A herd? A flock? A gleam would be appropriate (with all the sequins..). well, I was backstage with my flock of Drag Queens, preening, ohhing ahhing and not only was I witness to their mystical metamorphosis but I ended up being a mine of information, tips and tricks for them. |

I got the brief for a big commercial shoot. The keywords were elegant, glamorous and timeless. “No problem” I thought. The items to shoot were stunning, the setting was a beautiful house high up on a hill. “Gorgeous” I thought. The female model was someone I knew “Beautiful” I exclaimed. I knew the photographer “So talented” and the make-up artist “Award winning”. I began to think “This is going to be absolutely brilliant”. Then I heard something that unnerved me. |

It is midnight and the biggest natural disaster to hit NZ is just over 24 hours old. Christchurch is in ruins. Death and destruction dominate the news. |

All of us look into our wardrobe from time to time and exclaim with despair: “I have nothing to wear!!”. Which obviously when staring at a closet full of clothing is absolute nonsense. Instead of being our own worst critic what we need to start asking ourselves is “How can I make my wardrobe exciting again?” |

The Wellington Cup has been and gone for 2011. It was the first day in my history of attending the cup that there was rain. We could not escape the puddles. Even undercover, the rain ran everywhere seeping into pools under our feet to the point where we could not dodge them. We were literally standing in puddles, and there was nowhere to go to avoid them. |

Wellington Cup Day is just around the corner and I can't wait! The whole day is a smorgasbord of fun and excitement and during my 13 or so years attending I've enjoyed it every which way but loose. From the members stand, from inside a corporate tent, as a picnicker, as an entrant and winner and judge of Fashion in the Field and as a betting punter. However you chose to spend your day, it is not to be missed and much like WOW, is one of Wellingtons annual events that just gets better every year. Wellington always, without fail, puts on the most perfect scorcher of a day and makes sunscreen the most important and in-demand fashion accessory for everyone! |

Welcome to 2011. It's great to be here. It seemed so very far away. 2011 seemed like 'the future', a future where we'd all be eating dinner in pill form and wearing uniforms that make us all look a little bit like superheros. Well, here we all are. And it is not like that at all. Thank goodness. I can still go and gather a salad from my garden (don't mind if I do) and we are all free to express a little bit (or a lot) of our personality in the choices of clothes that we wear, music we listen to and way we talk. |

Fa la la la la – la la la la. In the eighteenth century when these lyrics were written 'gay' meant bright and showy. I like to keep this in mind when deciding what to wear on Christmas day. Of course because I live in Wellington, home of the southerly, the northerly and any wind that blows, the weather is always a major factor when deciding. But more than that, I want to have fun, and make myself and others smile. |

Not being chained to a desk over summer has its rewards: I have been putting my spare time to good 'domestic goddess' use. My first big project has been to re-cover the dining room chairs. His Highness has been complaining that he finds them uncomfortable, even going so far as to suggest that we get new ones. 'New' is not a word I like to hear when describing furniture for my 1920's home. I prefer vintage, retro, antique or old. So the chairs stay. They match the oak dining table perfectly, and I am quite enamored by the carvings and the turned legs on them. I have however decided to give them a long overdue and desperately needed makeover which will be my first-ever attempt at re-covering something... for I am an upholstering virgin. |

I'm immensely proud to be a New Zealander and to be born and bred in the Hutt. My heart swells with pride when I recognise each time little ol' Aotearoa has led the world in something, whether it is in giving women the vote or conquering Mt Everest, inventing the electric fence or splitting the atom. World firsts and New Zealand are something that have gone together since literally the dawn of time. We see the sunrise first and perhaps that is what gets our number 8 wire innovative brains ticking in the direction of innovation and ideas? |
